Saturday is Armed Forces Day – a day intended to raise public awareness of the contributions made by those who serve or have served in our Armed Forces. Naturally, there is at least one air show to honor our servicemen and women along with a few other aviation events worth noting for this weekend (a full listing of all Armed Forces Day events from around the country can be found here):
Armed Forces Day 2013 in the City of Nottingham. A spectacular programme of events and activities for the whole family is planned in Nottingham for Armed Forces Day this Saturday. Scheduled events include a parade and flypasts by the Red Arrows, the Battle of Britain Memorial flight and various other aircraft.
Chalke Valley History Festival Air Show at Ebbesbourne Wake, Wiltshire. For warbird fans, the first Chalke Valley History Festival Air Show will feature a number of historic aircraft including the OFMC Spitfire and Mustang, the Kent Spitfire, the Hurricane AE997, the Me108, a Boeing Stearman, the Great War Display Team and the RNHF Fairey Swordfish. D0 note there is a Napoleonic Battle recreation scheduled for Sunday as the entire history festival will showcase reenactments, live battles, clothing styles, pastimes and handicrafts to show what everyday life was like in various historical periods.
Military Pageant Air Display at Old Warden, Bedfordshire. The Shuttleworth Collection will be celebrating military aviation starting with a historic vehicle parade with the flying starting at 2 pm. Book online by 3 pm Saturday for £20 or pay £25 per person at the gate on Sunday.
