Cool Malibu home built from an old 747

by John on June 17, 2010

Fox News recently profiled a very unusual Malibu home made out of an old Pam Am / Tower Air 747 aircraft. Apparently, the builder bought the old aircraft for about US$35,000 and given the aircraft’s lightweight and the fact that the materials are recycled, an architect was able to turn it into a very “green home.” However, it took a helicopter, a crane and clearance from 17 different government agencies to bring in the 195 feet wingspan as a roof along with 4.5 million additional parts. Moreover, the homeowner had to register the home with the FAA so that other aircraft don’t mistake it for a downed aircraft!

what is needed to be a pilot November 6, 2011 at 21:25

Everyone should know NDB/DME/VOR/ILS flying skills, as a back up. It’s scary to think that people are flying planes, and without GPS, are not capable of landing a plane.
