Richard Branson’s new underwater plane

by John on February 3, 2010

Richard Branson has just unveiled his latest toy for his luxury fleet: an underwater plane that will fly riders deep into the Caribbean Sea. CNN Money and Gizmag have reported that the submarine dubbed the Neck Nymph, which can carry one pilot and two passengers, will cruise at 2 to 5 nautical miles per hour and is capable of diving more than 100 feet. The underwater plane will fly through the water by using the downward pressure on its wings and will be able to stay down for up to two hours at a time. However, riders must follow SCUBA procedures and either be trained or accompanied by a certified pilot.

Moreover, riders will need to shell out US$25,000 per week in addition to paying US$300,000 for a one-week stay on the private island where it will be based plus pay US$88,000 a week to rent out the Necker Belle, Branson’s 105-foot yacht – bringing the total cost to more than US$400,000 per week. In other words, enough to buy a plane that flies through the air!
