I remember starting my IR and getting the King DVDs - there were 7 or 8 of them I think. It can be quite daunting to begin with but I think its better to spend time on the ground learning stuff than time in the air trying to figure it out! :) Good luck with the course. Just starting an Instrument Rating Course with a G1000 aircraft and there are 10 disks in the course. Quite initimidating even though I'm reasonably familiar with the G1000. Probably a good start.
