The Paris Air Show 2009

by John on June 19, 2009

Paris Air Show The annual Paris Air Show 2009 is currently underway and will finish up on Sunday. Jon Ostrower’s FlightBlogger/Flightglobal is by far providing the most coverage of the event. In fact, Flightglobal already has already posted a number of videos and images plus the list of aircraft that are on display at this year’s event (which is also available on the official Paris Air Show website). Other bloggers covering this year’s air show include Runway Girl, The DEW Line, As the Cro(ft) Flies, Asian skies and Hyperbola.

Despite the otherwise gloomy economic conditions, especially for the aviation industry in general, there does appear to be some good news emerging from this year’s show . Although major aircraft makers Boeing and Airbus will probably see their worst sales record for the air show in decades, they both concur that the worst is over for aviation orders:

“It feels like we’re bouncing off the bottom,” says Boeing Commercial Airplanes chief executive Scott Carson. “It feels to us like the middle of next year is when we will see growth return to the industry.”

Airbus’s chief executive Tom Enders concurs: “We think [orders] will pick up again next year.”

Let us hope that their optimism also trickles over to the manufacturers of general business aviation aircraft.
