Why Concorde still matters

Michael Cannel wrote a great article on Fast Company about Concorde. [Hat tip: Gozmodo] As Jeremy Clarkson said when it retired “this is one small step for a man but a giant leap backwards for mankind.” Even if the cockpit seems antiquated, the plane itself still looks hyper-modern.

I was lucky enough to fly on it three times and savoured each trip like a flight to the moon. One strong memory is when, on a BA flight, the flight attendants asked passengers if they would like to visit the cockpit. A line of very well-heeled, expensively-suited businessmen (and me) quickly formed at the front of the airplane. Even captains of industry became schoolboys on Concorde.
