Its going to be another busy weekend for UK air shows as there are a total of six aviation events planned for the weekend in either Britain or Scotland:
RAFBF Anthems in the Park at RAF Cranwell, Lincolnshire. The Royal Air Force College Cranwell, Lincolnshire opens its doors to the public to become the spectacular setting for Anthems in the Park 2013 with special guest stars Jonathan & Charlotte. This event starts at 3pm with the opening of the gates to the manicured lawns in front of the world’s oldest military aviation college where you can picnic while enjoying pre-concert entertainment – including a spectacular air display featuring the Red Arrows, BBMF Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane, Blades Aerobatic team, Hawker Hunter, RAF Tutor and RAF King Air. East Fortune Airshow at East Fortune, East Lothian, Scotland. Scotland’s National Airshow will have the usual mix of both modern and historic air displays over the skies of National Museum of Flight, East Fortune. Book before 5pm on Friday to save 15%. Tickets are available online, by telephone on 0300 123 6789 or in person.
Spitfires, Merlins and Motors at IWM Duxford, Cambridgeshire. Taking centre stage on Sunday will be the Old Flying Machine Company’s Spitfire IX MH434 which is celebrating its 70th anniversary year. If that is not enough for you, there will be a number of Spitfires on static display before they take to the skies to perform short displays. Tickets can be purchased online, by calling the Box Office on 01223 499353 or on the day of the event.
Wings and Wheels Air Display at Old Warden, Bedfordshire. The Shuttleworth Collection will not only celebrate aviation, but also historic and vintage vehicles. Pre 1960 classic car owners who pre-book will get in for free while other visitors can book online in advance and save £5 per person. Otherwise, its £25 per person on the day of the event with the gates opening at 9am and the flying starting at 2pm.
The Whole Weekend
Sunderland Airshow 2013 at Sunderland Seafront, Tyne & Wear. The Sunderland Airshow 2013 is actually the 25th anniversary of the Sunderland Airshow and will feature precision flying, displays by the Red Arrows and international stunt pilots. A launch party at Cliffe Park on Friday from 7 to 10pm will feature a spectacular fireworks display and a performance from the Royal Marines Band Scotland plus tribute band Re-Take that. The best part about the whole weekend is that the show is free.
Cleethorpes Festival of Flight at Lincolnshire. The Cleethorpes Festival of Flight returns for a second year with the flying commencing at 11:30am and will continue up-until 4:30pm each day (with a break for lunch). The world’s last flying Vulcan Bomber will perform a flypast on Saturday while the Lancaster Bomber will be attending on the Sunday only. The air show is free but its sponsors ask that you purchase the 70th Anniversary Dambusters Commemorative programme to help support it and future events.
